The museum was built and opened on 24th August 1984 by the club's chairman of the time – Nuňez. As the number of trophies and fans increased, the museum was expanded – three times so far in 1987, 1994 and 1998. Since 1998 the Catalan museum has had the surface of 3 500 square meters. It is divided into four sections. In 2000 chairman of Blaugrana christened the Barcelona museum and gave it the name of the founder of the Catalan club - Joan Gamper.
