An Italian football club from Milan which has won the club championship of Europe and the world many times. The team plays in red and black striped shirts and white shorts. The colours gave the team its nickname rossoneri (red and black). One of the most successful clubs in history: it has won 7 UEFA Champions League Cups (second place, after Real Madrid), Championship of Italy 17 times (also second, after Juventus) and 5 times Coppa Italia. Milan, together with the Argentinean Boca Juniors, is the most successful team in history of international football (18 official trophies). It is the only club in history to win on the intra-continental level 4 times – 3 Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup. The club was founded on 16th December 1899 by six British immigrants, with Herbert Kilpin who is commonly recognized as the founder of the Milan club. At the beginning, there were two sections: football and cricket. After six years the latter was closed and Milan became a football only club. To commemorate its beginnings, the club retained the English (and Lombard) name of the city, instead of the Italian form Milano.
The stadium commonly referred to by its original name – San Siro. Also Inter plays its matches there. In the 2008/09 season the stadium had 80 074 seats. The San Siro pitch is 105 m long and 68 m wide. According to the UEFA ranking, San Siro belongs to the group of 27 stadiums which deserve 5 stars (best note). In the basement there is a club museum of Milan and Inter which was opened on 5th October 1996 on the initiative of Onorato Arisi.
